Wish - Review

This Is The Thanks I Get?

2.5 / 5

The Guardians of the Galaxy team line up

Directed by Chris Buck & Fawn Veerasunthorn.

Asha, a sharp-witted idealist, makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force – a little ball of boundless energy called Star.

Disney has proved time and time again over their century of filmmaking why they are one of the strongest and most well-loved studios in Hollywood, but Wish misses the mark with a recycled story paired with uninspired musical numbers which feel far from a celebration "100 years in the making."

After recent trends of multiverses and nostalgia-baiting, this was the prime excuse for Disney to celebrate itself unashamedly. But outside a few fleeting references, this operated very much in a world of its own that lacked the necessary magic even with its enchanting premise.

Ultimately, Wish was frustratingly underwhelming - filled with so much potential that it feels so stereotypical that it immediately begins to bleed into the background rather than taking its place as a triumphant commemoration to show why the 'House of Mouse' has captivated the hearts of audiences for one hundred years.
