An elusive jewel thief whose high-stakes heists unfold along the iconic 101 freeway in Los Angeles eyes the score of a lifetime, while a relentless detective closes in. Based on the novella by Don Winslow.

Surface-level style quickly falls to the side as Crime 101's needlessly layered story begins to buckle under its own weight with side characters and plots vanishing as it seemingly makes things up as it goes. There's a decent sub-two-hour film hidden in here, but this final product is held up by its impressively stacked cast.

Our verdict: 3 out of 5 stars.
