The Only Way in the World You Can Not Learn Something is to Pretend You Already Know It.

Review written by Jack Aling

Ella McCay is directed and written by James L. Brooks.

Ella McCay, an idealistic young politician, navigates the chaos of her personal and professional life as she prepares to succeed her mentor as the state's longtime incumbent governor.

An absolute fever dream. Like a film frozen in the mid-90s - full of disorientating whimsy, absurd line delivery and equally bewildering performances. I couldn't look away. I need to lie down.

Our verdict: 2 out of 5 stars.

Ella McCay arrives in UK Cinemas 12 December 2025.
