Ink 2026 film review

Ink is directed by Danny Boyle and written by James Graham.
Starring Jack O'Connell, Guy Pearce, Claire Foy & Blake Harrison.

A group of misfits and visionaries had an idea for a new kind of news - one that would give the people what they want, and would change the face of the world we live in today.

Ink works best in the moments when it is allowed to be its true rebellious self. An interesting dissection of British culture and how the media manipulate and shape a national obsession with indecency. Jack O'Connell is the ringleader of chaos in the origin story of everyone's favourite newspaper: The Sun.

The film has good momentum in the first half as it shows the fierce battle against The Mirror to be the number one newspaper in the world. It does begin to lose focus as it tries to rush a not-so poignant message on the long-term ripple effects on society as a whole.

Danny Boyle uses some of his signature directorial tricks (and some new modern tools, which is a whole other discussion) to achieve an unconventional biopic about the irreversible impact of simple but effective storytelling that people can't help but crave.

Our verdict: 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Ink arrives in UK cinemas on January 8th 2027.
