My Neighbour Totoro

What's it about?

Two sisters move to the country with their father in order to be closer to their hospitalised mother, and discover the surrounding trees are inhabited by Totoros, magical spirits of the forest.

No traditional narrative, no antagonist, just pure imagination fuelled escapism.

Miyazaki captures the carefree and adventurous spirit of childhood in a piece that sets aside traditional cinematic tropes as it focuses on the art of distraction.
