Predator: Badlands is directed by Dan Trachtenberg and written by Patrick Aison.

Cast out from his clan, a young Predator named Dek finds an unlikely ally in a damaged android named Thia and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary.

If franchises are the future, the work Dan Trachtenberg is doing with the Predator

series should be the blueprint.

Making the Predator/Yautja a protagonist is a brilliant way to flip things on its head and see things through a fresh (and bloodthirsty) pair of eyes. A touch too 'Disney-fied' with cutesy mascots and restrained violence, but I will welcome an action-comedy that is allowed to try something new rather than the same old recycled junk.

Our verdict: 4 out of 5 stars.
