The Sheep Detectives is directed by Kyle Balda and written by Craig Mazin.
When a mysterious incident disrupts life on the farm, a flock of sheep who were secretly reading detective novels must become the detectives themselves, following the clues to investigate their human suspects.
I only saw this on a whim as a way to pass time until The Mandalorian, but The Sheep Detectives was a welcome and totally unexpected surprise.
There's a warming charm throughout as it takes a silly premise but never plays down or treats the audience like idiots. The sheep's impressive animation and accomplished ensemble cast prove that this is being treated as seriously as if it's the next Knives Out.
As cosy as a wool jumper - an unanticipated cinematic hack to build character connections with the audience in your murder mystery is to make them all adorable farmyard animals.
