Because I Knew You.

Review written by Jack Aling

Wicked: For Good is directed by Jon M. Chu and written by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox.

As an angry mob rises against the Wicked Witch, Glinda and Elphaba must come together one final time. With their singular friendship now the fulcrum of their futures, they will need to truly see each other if they are to change themselves, and all of Oz, for good.

In the past year, Wicked has blown up to become a worldwide phenomenon. From pop culture to awards season, it was impossible to avoid it. Was the second half of this sensation ever truly going to live up to the hype?

Messy editing, disjointed storytelling and unremarkable songs are stretched out almost 2 and a half hours in an attempt to live up to a year of anticipation. I wanted to enjoy this so much, but it became clear very quickly that there is simply not enough story to justify a 'second half' to this wicked tale.

Our verdict: 3 out of 5 stars.

Wicked: For Good arrives in UK cinemas 21 November 2025.
