Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn - Review (London Film Festival 2021)

The More Idiotic an Opinion, The More Important It Is. 3 / 5

Directed by Radu Jude. Emi, a school teacher, finds her career and reputation under threat after a personal sex tape is leaked on the Internet. Forced to meet the parents demanding her dismissal, Emi refuses to surrender to their pressure.

Full of unbridled rage, Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn is a social satire like no other.

Starting with an… unstimulated opener, it makes you immediately aware of what kind of ride you are letting yourself in for.

After a sex tape by a local teacher leaks online, the film deals with the debate of what effect the fallout may have on the local youth and what ramifications, if any, should come of Katia Pascariu's Emi.

Radu Jude has purposely made a film that encourages discussion and has such overwhelming anger throughout that fuels the argument and events of the film.

Shot during COVID times, it's odd on reflection how little the masks affected the viewing experience - a sign of how accustom we've come to it.

An absurd experience with three distinctly different acts, if nothing else, this film almost certainly has the most outrageous and hilariously shocking endings of the year.
