Come as You Are.
Review written by Jack Aling
Queer is directed by Luca Guadagnino and written by Justin Kuritzkes. Starring Daniel Craig, Drew Starkey, Jason Schwartzman & Lesley Manville.
William Lee leads a solitary life, however the arrival of a young student, stirs William into finally establishing a meaningful connection with someone.
Continuing Luca Guadagnino's fascinatingly diverse filmography, Queer adapts William S. Burroughs' complex novel with seemingly natural ease supported by a spellbinding lead performance by Daniel Craig.
Guadagnino has such a beguiling way to film intimacy - a style that is only elevated by the dreamlike nature of this film's narrative. What begins as a lost soul looking for connection evolves into something far more psychedelic and introspective as the film is split into three distinctive chapters.
I still don't entirely know what to make of it but Queer is an undeniably enchanting experience that has already begun to split and bewilder audiences. There is something about it that you can't shake off.
Set to another incredible score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross score, I am excited to revisit this after reflecting on what it has to offer. At the very least, I'll be a bit more prepared for the journey ahead.
Our verdict: 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Queer releases in UK cinemas on 13th December 2024.
