Supergirl is directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira.
When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.
After a promising start for the newly revamped DC Studios, Supergirl plays things surprisingly safe as the 'difficult second album.' For a film that embodies such a rebellious spirit, it quickly blends in with quippy needle-drop action comedies that we've seen time and time again. All of the elements are confident, but the final product feels wildly forgettable.
Milly Alcock is a strong lead, and the scenes on Argo City prove that she has the range to embody the cosmic character. Despite this being her solo film, I hope she gets more chances to show the range of the character and her performance in future DC instalments.
DC still has a long way to go to prove itself and stand tall alongside its opposition. With the next film planned as… a standalone Clayface body horror… You've got to give them props for trying.
