What's it about?
To take down South Boston's Irish Mafia, the police send in one of their own to infiltrate the underworld, not realizing the syndicate has done likewise.
Why do we love it?
Winning the Best Picture Oscar in 2007 (as well as winning Directing, Adapted Screenplay and Editing), after almost 40 years in the business, this is what finally won Scorsese his Oscar. What's more impressive is not that he won an Oscar for this but that it was his first. The Departed is loud and in your face with a heavy Boston accent and an impactful soundtrack to match.
