Create Something to Fear.
4 / 5
Directed by Arkasha Stevenson.
When a young American woman is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church, she encounters a darkness that causes her to question her faith.
Antichrists must be all the rage this year as The First Omen joins Immaculate to compete for best demon-spawn of 2024.
The First Omen does a fantastic job of reviving a classic franchise that pays respect to what came before it while expanding the lore in interesting and expansive directions. Arkasha Stevenson becomes the name to watch with an explosive and most importantly terrifying debut that delivers some gloriously visceral horror.
Nell Tiger Free matches the high level with a passionately intense star-making performance which combined with excellent direction and storytelling created an exceptional lead role to give herself over to.
It's a real joy when a film smashes your expectations and after many half-baked legacy pre/sequels, I was not expecting much from The First Omen but now I cannot wait to watch it all over again.
