The Eternals are a team of ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. When an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows, they are forced to reunite against mankind’s most ancient enemy, the Deviants.
Before the multiverse changes everything, Eternals proves that the Marvel Cinematic Universe still has so much that is yet to be explored.
Going back millennia, the Eternals have helped humans to evolve but when their purpose is challenged it opens the MCU to yet another earth-destroying possibility.
There are so many new characters and so much exposition to cram in, it's no surprise that there's a lot of show don't tell. But when it does show, it really shows with Chloé Zhao's directorial eye combining with the behemoth that is Marvel's VFX budget-making for some of the most stunning celestial imagery ever put to IMAX screens.
Some characters get the chance to shine more than others but it did a surprisingly good job of giving each their own defining moment. Where it may get bogged down in its own story, the scale of Eternals is not lost and like Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, it expands the MCU in unfamiliar and cosmic directions that will only continue to build as time goes on.
