The Wild Robot is written and directed by Chris Sanders.
Starring Lupita Nyong'o, Pedro Pascal & Kit Connor.
After a shipwreck, an intelligent robot called Roz is stranded on an uninhabited island. To survive the harsh environment, Roz bonds with the island’s animals and cares for an orphaned baby goose.
An instant comfort film, The Wild Robot combines stunning animation with a touching story about connection, parenthood and the power of a chosen family.
Despite the film following a Robot lost in the wilderness whose prime directive becomes to care for a baby goose, there is something remarkably relatable and consoling in its story. It's impossible to not become invested in the characters through its simple yet immensely effective storytelling.
DreamWorks Animation prove they still have skin in the game with a return to form even if it is the final film to be animated entirely in-house. The voice cast is always the secret to DreamWorks Animation's success and The Wild Robot is no difference but especially Lupita Nyong'o as Roz in the lead. The subtle evolution of her performance over the course of the film is masterfully done, perfectly personifying the journey of discovery.
Tugging at every single one of your heartstrings The Wild Robot is further proof that animation and original filmmaking is as strong as it's ever been and you can feel the love in every single frame. A truly special and moving film.
Our verdict: 4.5 out of 5 stars.
The Wild Robot releases in UK cinemas 18th October 2024.
