Your Goddess Has No Dominion Here.

Review written by Jack Aling

Avatar: Fire and Ash is directed by James Cameron and written by James Cameron and Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver and Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno.

In the wake of the devastating war against the RDA, Jake Sully and Neytiri face a new threat on Pandora: the Ash People, a violent Na'vi tribe led by the ruthless Varang.

In 2009, Avatar revolutionised visual effects and immersive cinema. Over a decade later, The Way of Water

returned audiences to Pandora, expanding the world and taking another step forward in technical achievement.

Fire and Ash hits on everything we'd expect from an Avatar movie with its escapist visuals and agitating runtime, but for the first time feels like it fails to bring something new to the table.

There is a lot of retreading old ground, especially when compared to The Way of Water. Considering the time, resource and money that goes into this franchise, it's a shock that after 3+ hours, the story feels like it's barely progressed. Intergalactic world building will only get you so far, but if Avatar 4

ends without significant character development and another extended fight with human military types, then what's the point of returning at all?

Our verdict: 4 out of 5 stars.

Avatar: Fire and Ash arrives in UK cinemas 19 December 2025.
