I Saw the TV Glow - Review

This Isn't How Life is Supposed to Feel.

4 / 5

The Guardians of the Galaxy team line up

Directed by Jane Schoenbrun.

Owen's classmate introduces him to a mysterious TV show — a vision of a supernatural world beneath their own. In the pale glow of the television, Owen’s view of reality begins to crack.

I Saw The TV Glow has such a captivating confidence in its storytelling and visual style. It's built to challenge audiences' expectations as it presents a coming of age story through an exploration of gender identity and 90's television.

Writer and director Jane Schoenbrun has created a bold vision that will cement them as an original cinematic voice. The way I Saw The TV Glow balances moments of intimacy and vulnerability with some truly terrifying imagery and sequences makes for an experience that is impossible to shake with modern Lynchian themes throughout.

As the credits began, I was in disbelief at what I saw. Unsure what to make of it. But the more I think about it, I Saw The TV Glow really is something special.
